The High-Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, appointed to design a framework to replace the Millennium Development Goals, released its report last week. Its recommendations include a goal on peace and security, and recognise child marriage as a key indicator of girls' and women's empowerment.

With ongoing conflicts in Blue Nile and South Kordofan and worsening relations between Sudan and South Sudan, The Elders made a series of visits in 2012 to both nations, to highlight the growing humanitarian crisis and encourage further peace talks between the two leaders. This summary report provides a brief analysis of the visits and the impact of The Elders’ renewed engagement in the region.

Final report – August 2012

In the spring of 2012, The Elders and four young activists began an inter-generational debate about the change needed to secure a sustainable future for our planet, in the run-up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). This report discusses the thinking behind the initiative, what it was able to achieve and the momentum it generated to further promote sustainable development.

In April 2011, the Elders visited China and the Korean Peninsula. Their trip report, available in English, Korean and Mandarin, summarises their main findings and recommendations on nuclear and security issues, inter-Korean relations and the humanitarian situation in North Korea.

The Elders made their second collective visit to the Middle East from 15-22 October 2010. This report sets out the Elders’ conclusions from the trip, which they hope will be a helpful contribution to peace efforts.
