Fostering neighbourly support - The Elders in Ankara and Athens

<h3 class="post-title subpt">During their September 2009 trip to Cyprus, Elders Lakhdar Brahimi and Gro Brundtland visited Ankara and Athens to better understand the views of the island’s most important neighbours.</h3><div class="quoteblock"><div class="quotetext"></div></div><p>Before travelling to Cyprus, the Elders visited Ankara and Athens to better understand the views of the island’s most important neighbours.</p>
<p>In Ankara they met President Abdullah Gül and Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek. In Athens they met Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis and opposition leader George Papandreou. They also had a lively exchange with Greek journalists, academics and think tank representatives working on the Cyprus problem.</p>
