Mary Robinson commends the report published by the High Level Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of the War in Ukraine, and calls for urgent action to reduce environmental risks in Ukraine caused by Russia's war on aggression.

Mary Robinson, Chair of The Elders and former President of Ireland, said:

"Ukraine has shown far-sighted leadership in shining a light on the environmental impact of the conflict, while defending itself from a war of aggression. Today’s report by the High Level Working Group sets out clear steps for both Ukraine and its international supporters, all of whom I hope will respond at speed and at scale. Urgent action is needed to document damage and reduce environmental risks, ensure accountability, and prioritise green reconstruction. The need for solidarity and long-term commitment to Ukraine has never been higher, and the world must step up.”
