Role Overview
This role is responsible for delivering high-quality digital and editorial content, and exceptional user engagement across our communications channels. The post-holder has responsibility for supporting and delivering a full range communications outputs and processes. These include written editorial, digital content production, email marketing, audience monitoring, and website and digital asset management. The role has specific responsibilities for some of our social media channels, e-newsletter content and key elements of our target audience engagement.
Reporting initially to the Director of Communications and working closely with highly-skilled colleagues in the Communications and Programmes teams, the post-holder will be bring a range of content creation and communications management skills to this multifaceted role. They will be an exceptional writer with a good understanding of how digital communications can be used for advocacy and storytelling. They will have a keen eye for detail, a passion for digital engagement and a strong willingness to learn and develop.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
General (.4 FTE)
- Work with others to deliver external communications for The Elders, including writing, sourcing and editing material for our digital channels, publications, speeches and media engagement
- Plan, support and deliver communications projects and engagement activity in line with The Elders programme objectives
- Support the project delivery of our print publications, with specific responsibilities for coordinating brand and design stages
- Support the collation of press, online and social media insight as required
- Work with our media and audience monitoring provider to improve our knowledge of our target audiences.
Online and digital (.5 FTE)
- Create and publish content for The Elders’ social media channels, providing close support to the Digital Advocacy Manager
- Create proactive and reactive image-based and text-based content across all our digital channels, as required
- Manage The Elders’ website, ensuring up-to-date content, and high-quality user experience. Work with the developer agency on improvements and maintenance
- Produce excellent website sub-copy, ensuring our digital content is accurate and engaging
- Write and produce The Elders monthly enewsletter and other email alerts, manage our emarketing database, and implement improvements based on data insight
- Work with the Digital Advocacy Manager to improve reach, growth and engagement of our digital content.
Digital asset management (.1 FTE)
- Administer our design guidelines and assets for use internally and externally
- Ensure The Elders’ brand imagery is correctly and consistently reflected across all our owned-channels
- Advise and oversee third-party use of our brand assets including our logo, stylesheets and Elders’ imagery.
- Maintain and update The Elders internal image and video database and respond to usage requests.
Person Specification
- At least 4 years’ experience of digital communications, insight analysis and project management
- An extensive working knowledge of CMS and web analytics tools
- An extensive working knowledge of social media tools and tactics
- A working knowledge of brand design and development, with experience of project managing both print and online publications
- Exceptional written ability in English
- Digitally literate, with experience of web-publishing, graphic design, analytics and/or multi-media production
- Organised, efficient, motivated self-starter who can work autonomously and within a team
- A strong personal commitment to the mission and values of The Elders.
- A flexible style and willingness to work in a small, collaborative team.
- This role may require some international travel, in exceptional circumstances. You may be required to attend staff or Elders events in the UK from time to time.
Working at The Elders
We operate a hybrid working policy, with a high degree of flexibility for staff. We ask staff to attend the office based on need, not a quota of days. We believe there are certain activities that are best conducted in person and also hold monthly “in days” when the whole team comes together. Additionally, some roles involve international travel, the timing of which is usually decided by Elders’ commitments. Aside from these obligations, staff are free to choose the balance between working remotely and working in the office that suits them best. We are based close to Green Park station in London, in a newly refurbished office.
