80th Remembrance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Upholding the nuclear taboo in a changing world order
Date: Tuesday 13 May, 18:00-19:30
Venue: International Conference Center Hiroshima
Amid rising global tensions and a new nuclear arms race, this timely event brings together distinguished global leaders from The Elders and passionate young disarmament activists to explore the escalating threat of nuclear weapons in today's world.
As we prepare to mark the 80th anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the intergenerational panel will examine the leadership and strategies needed to re-energise the global disarmament movement and minimise current nuclear risks and engage with questions from the International Conference Center Hiroshima audience.
Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Governor of Hiroshima Hidehiko Yuzaki, will also share their perspectives on the global nuclear picture and the critical role Japan and the international community must play in preserving peace for current and future generations.
