Gro Harlem Brundtland joins distinguished women leaders from politics and healthcare to call on world leaders to prioritise testing for COVID-19.

Ahead of the global pledging event Global Goal: Unite for Our Future, Gro Harlem Brundtland joined women leaders to call on the global community to increase investment for COVID-19 testing innovation and access.

The leaders affirmed the importance of virus testing for containment strategies.  This will be key to allowing economies to reopen and the deployment of future treatments and vaccines.

Investment is key to ensure equitable access to testing, everywhere

The leaders noted that while the necessity for fast, simple, affordable, high-quality tests is global, it is particularly relevant for low- and middle-income countries that do not have the infrastructure needed to implement sustained testing within existing laboratory-based conditions.

Testing worldwide is vital to contain the humanitarian and economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. We need leaders to engage in global solidarity efforts to ensure testing is available to all who need it
